Victoria Police is urging protesters at the Occupy Melbourne Rally to vacate the City Square peacefully and has warned that any violence or anti social behaviour will not be tolerated.
Police are at the scene this morning to assist in the evacuation of the square after protesters were asked to leave by Melbourne City Council.
Superintendent Rod Wilson said police were prepared to step in to remove protesters if necessary and warned that anyone resisting police orders could face charges.
“We don’t want any violence and we don’t want any police officer to be injured,” Supt. Wilson said.
“But we have the necessary resources and we will take action to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.”
